For any dance practise, Costumes play a vital role in portraying the character and the tradition. Indian classical dance forms are inspired by the mythology, traditional stories. Each of the Indian dance forms has its own set of traditional stories that are depicted by the performers.
Here are some popular classical dance forms of India and costumes :
1. Bharatnatyam Dance Costumes :
Male Costumes : Male practising Bharatnatyam dance typically prefer to wear dhoti, which is a traditional cloth wrapped around the waist along with the Jewellery set which includes Long Necklaces, Earrings and Multi layered Velvet Anklets.
Female Costumes : Females practising Bharatnatyam dance prefers to wear plated saree with choli. The saree is draped in distinct style along with the traditional jewellery items like necklaces, bangles, anklets, Kamarbandh, mathapatti etc.
Male Dancers : Male practising Kathak Dance wears a kurta and dhoti or Churidar pajama. Along with this, it also includes traditional jewellery items with Ghungroos beaded in thread.
Female Dancers : Female dancers practising Kathak dance usually wears Anarkali style Kurta with churidar Pajama. It also includes jewellery items with Ghungroo wearing over the Anklets.
Male Dancers : Male dancers practising Odissi dance forms wears dhoti along with kurta much similar to Other Indian Classical dance along with traditional Odissi jewellery and Ghungroos in their anklets.
Female Dancers : Female dancers practising Odissi dance forms wears unique sarees draped in Odissi style along with heavy bordered blouse. They also wears traditional Odissi jewellery, headpiece, earrings, necklace and Ghungroos.
